oh the irony

Filed under: Story — Kelly @ 6:43 pm

if you know dusty and i at all… you know that we are both big talkers.  we talk about anything and everything.  our sweet (ahem…) 14 month old is now very quickly following in our footsteps.  he says 15-16 words now and said his first sentence the other day.  albeit only two words, it still counts as a sentence right?  jackson was helping me in the kitchen, and by that i mean playing in, on, and under the dishwasher, and he pointed to the oven and said, “dat’s hot.”  of  course we were oh so impressed.  that is one of the most enjoyable things about parenthood… watching your child’s mind take hold and conquer.  speaking of words… at the beginning of june jackson learned how to say “uh oh”.  and this is where the irony takes place… scroll down if you cannot already see the pictures…

oh the irony… my child learns to say “uh oh” about the time mommy and daddy are saying “uh oh” as well.  so, this in large part is why neither dusty or myself have been blogging lately.  i’ve been crazy sick and unable to lift my head off my pillow (or ground, kitchen table, counter top… whatever is closest), and my incredible husband has been doing everything.

i was still nursing jackson 4-5 times a day, and after my first doctor’s appointment at 11 weeks (yes, i know this is late – i think i was in denial for a few weeks), the doctor told me i had a week to wean him.  it was harder for me than it was for him… almost 14 months of doing something only i could do, and i must admit it was sad to know i would never nurse my firstborn again.  and now he just pats them and says “ba’s ba’s” and giggles.  they start young don’t they!  now if i can just get him weaned from the bottle and take a sippy cup.  one step at a time… only now it’s two “STEPPS” at a time.  dear lord… i’m going to have two under two in diapers.  i asked one of my friends the other day how she handles her two under age 3, and she looked at me, laughed, and said “zoloft 50mg honey.”  i cracked up, but deep down i know that if the next one is anything like the first… i’m going to be needing the same thing if not more!

i am almost 13 weeks and the nausea is slowly starting to subside, and today i actually cleaned the house, went out to lunch (which i kept down), and then went to sam’s with my mom.  jackson is consistently sleeping through the night (i’m sure i just jinxed myself), and for that we are entirely grateful.  jackson has quite the personality (but hasn’t he always?), and we are working tirelessly on getting him to stop biting.  after many other techniques… i finally popped him on the arm when he bit me last week, and he has yet to do it again (to me anyway).  i am hoping this little phase ends before the baby gets here… which should be around the beginning of february.  please remember us in your prayers.  we had an unbelievably difficult time with jackson, and to be quite honest, i cried for the first two weeks after finding out i was pregnant again.  i don’t think i can go through that again, but in the same breath i know that God is in control, and He will never give me more than i can handle.  all i know is that this one better be my “easy” one or else momma will be goin’ to the crazy house.

waterfall hike

last weekend, we went on an afternoon adventure with some of our closest friends, joey and rebecca. while we have always enjoyed hiking, we have yet to take jackson on a day trek into the woods. until now.

i firmly believe that we live in one of the most beautiful areas in the southeast. we have national forests filled with mountains and waterfalls, all within very close proximity. it is so nice to have all of this nearby, especially when you have an adventurous little toddler with a passion for the outdoors.

now, you may be wondering how we managed to hike the trails while carrying jackson. two words: baby bjorn. and being that i was the one lugging him around, i think my judgement is clear when i say that jackson is definitely over the weight limit for the bjorn carrier. but we made it work. and seeing his excitement as we reached the waterfalls made it all worthwhile. as you may have imagined, all he wanted to do was jump in the water. and the closer he could get to the actual falls, the better. he truly has no fear.

but after a day full of stomping around in the water, this little man was tuckered out. in fact, on the hike back out, he actually fell asleep in the bjorn. it was a sweet ending to such a great day, and i have a feeling that we will be hiking again very soon.
